Mosaic Tile by Kim

Little bits combine to make beautiful pieces!

Tile Art

Man first invented tile over 4000 years ago as a means to build his home with durability and beauty. Beautiful tile surfaces have been found in the oldest of pyramids and ruins from Egypt to Babylon and Greece. Now you can not only find the same beautiful tile at the Dragonfly Shops &Gardens, but you can learn how to make it yourself courtesy of Kim Kahrilas!

Kim has been in love with tile for as long as she can remember and began doing mosaic work four years ago. Her passion was such that it infected her wonderful husband, who in a gesture of support for Kim’s artistry, rolled up their lawn and put in planters and gravel paths for her! The methods she teaches are suitable for indoor decoration as well as outdoor use. Kim’s technique and creative style can turn any space beautiful with her use of design and imagination in tile mosaic. A plain brick garden wall can become an iconic piece of mosaic art.

Lead people through your garden with richly colored and decorative yet durable stepping stones of tile. You can even have these stepping ‘stones’ in the fun shape of rabbits, hearts, suns and teapots to match your own eclectic style!

But don’t let your imagination stop there! Why not a tile decorated desktop? Flowerpots, mirrors and picture frames are also excellent mediums all awaiting your artistic touch!

You say you don’t know how to go about making tile or even creating your own tile artwork? That part is easy! Kim not only sells her own pieces at the Dragonfly Shops & Gardens, she gives classes too!  Check out some of the student’s work below!
